FAQ

How much does it cost to move within Dallas – Fort Worth?

A good target for a dependable moving company in DFW is approximately $70 to $80 per mover per hour. This means a two person crew may cost approximately $140 to $160 per hour, plus any clearly disclosed trip, truck, material, or specialty fees. Extremely low rates may indicate an inexperienced or uninsured company. Always request a written estimate and ask exactly what is included.

How far in advance should I hire movers in DFW?

Ideally, you should schedule your movers two to three weeks before your move. Hawk Movers will always try to accommodate shorter notice when our schedule allows. During the summer and near the beginning or end of the month, it is best to schedule earlier because availability is more limited.

What should I expect when hiring a moving company?

You should expect a professional, trained, and experienced crew that arrives with the correct tools and equipment for the job. Your movers should wrap and pad your furniture, handle your belongings carefully, communicate clearly, and be prepared for the specific needs of your move.

How do I prepare for a move in the Dallas heat?

The best way to prepare is to hire movers and let us handle the heavy lifting! You should also have plenty of water available, transport food and other items affected by heat in a cooler, seal and label your boxes, and clear all walkways. Being fully prepared helps reduce the amount of time your move takes and limits unnecessary exposure to the Texas heat.

How do I choose a reputable moving company?

Check the company’s recent reviews, how long it has been in business, and whether it is licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. You should also request a written estimate, confirm all fees, and ask about the company’s crew training.

What should I do if my move involves stairs or a long carry?

Nothing special is required, but please tell our office about the stairs or long walking distance when scheduling your move. Hawk Movers does not charge a separate stair fee or long carry fee. The work is included in the time billed at our regular hourly rate. Providing this information ahead of time helps us arrive with the right crew and equipment.

How do I move a piano or other large or heavy items?

Let our office know about any large or specialty items before your moving date. Hawk Movers uses piano boards and heavy duty dollies to safely handle pianos and other heavy items. We can also move specialty items such as grandfather clocks. Our experienced movers know how to carefully disassemble appropriate components and remove the weights and pendulum for transportation. Please provide photos and measurements in advance so we can bring the correct tools and plan the safest way to move the item.
